This archive of record album and CD cover art presents some of the more historically interesting items I've collected over the years. I've always been intriqued by the odd, the unusual, rare & offbeat - though there is more mainstream material to be found here as well.

The album cover is a lost art - CD covers just don't have the space to create the impressive effect a great 12" cover had, though many artists are doing the best they can given the limitations of the CD. FRONT COVER: Ars Nova
COMMENTS: Translated, it's "New Art." The cover of the debut album from the baroque influenced art pop/rock band caught my eye. Its dark, ornate design was unusual for the brightly lit, psychedelic sixties. Principal songwriter Wyatt Day crafted multi-textured tales of varied subject matter.
BACK COVER: Ars Nova
COMMENTS: The back cover of this album carried the musician's point even farther, portraying themselves as bronzed works of art. The message was clear- this is not just frivolous pop music folks, this is ART. This first album included a rock version of "Also Spach Zarathustra" that predated Deodata's hit version by several years.
INTERIOR ART: Ars Nova
COMMENTS: The greatest bands and musicians changed their music as they changed as people. Ars Nova went through many incarnations- from baroque flavored art rock, to funky jazz flavored pop. Later a Japanese synth rock band used the same name.
