This archive of record album and CD cover art presents some of the more historically interesting items I've collected over the years. I've always been intriqued by the odd, the unusual, rare & offbeat - though there is more mainstream material to be found here as well.

The album cover is a lost art - CD covers just don't have the space to create the impressive effect a great 12" cover had, though many artists are doing the best they can given the limitations of the CD. All the albums in this gallery have been played on the NeverEndingWonder Radio Empire. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN See something you'd like to hear? Drop us a line HERE. FRONT COVER: Half a Sixpence - Original London Cast

COMMENTS: This was based on H.G. Wells' novel "Kipps." Now how many musicals do you suppose can boast such an illustrious pedigree? There are some of the most rollicking showstoppers I've ever heard in this show. This West End musical starred British Musical superstar Tommy Steele and the chorus included a young John Cleese.

FRONT COVER: Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention - Freak Out

COMMENTS: Never has there been a debut album of such genius. Zappa burst upon the scene in 1965 with his mixture of 50's parodies, savage social satire, free-form experimentalism, protest rock, and cobbed bits of Edgar Varese, and the musical world has never been the same. It's still just as relevant and innovative today as it was back then. The inside liner notes were dripping with Zappa's trademark sarcasm. This was one of the first three albums I ever owned. I bought it because it "looked cool" and it had two disks. It sure opened my eyes!

FRONT COVER: Dave Mason is Alive

COMMENTS: When supergroup "Traffic" broke up, Dave Mason released this solo album composed mainly of songs he wrote with "Traffic" and proved he could go it alone. His songs 40,000 Headmen, Sad and Deep As You, and others boasted hauntingly beautiful melodies.

FRONT COVER: Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes - Marraige on the Rocks - Rock Bottom

COMMENTS: After releasing the great psychedelic anthem "Journey to the Center of Your Mind," and before he became rock music's ambassador from the Survivalist movement, Ted Nugent released some of the most innovative and experimental rock music ever created. This album is a great example. Contains the absolutely weird and wild ten minute opus, "The Inexhaustible Quest for the Cosmic Cabbage."
