This archive of record album and CD cover art presents some of the more historically interesting items I've collected over the years. I've always been intriqued by the odd, the unusual, rare & offbeat - though there is more mainstream material to be found here as well.

The album cover is a lost art - CD covers just don't have the space to create the impressive effect a great 12" cover had, though many artists are doing the best they can given the limitations of the CD. All the albums in this gallery have been played on the NeverEndingWonder Radio Empire. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN See something you'd like to hear? Drop us a line HERE. FRONT COVER: Kantner, Slick, and Frieberg - Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun

COMMENTS: Great example of striking cover art from the 70's. Kantner and Slick had so much creativity they couldn't be confined to one, or even two bands, and released many side projects and solo albums, such as this album.

BACK COVER: Kantner, Slick, and Frieberg - Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun

COMMENTS: Art was by Drew Struzan and Bill Garland. Guest musicians included Garcia, Jack Traylor, David Crosby, Mickey Hart, the Pointer Sisters, and Craig Chaquico, who would later join the Jefferson Starship.

INTERIOR ART, DETAIL: Kantner, Slick, Freiberg - Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun

COMMENTS: Those are Grace Slick's eyes. This album is a perfect example of San Francisco style psychedelia. Paul Kantner mined the theme of founding a futuristic hippie Utopia in many songs, and devoted several albums to the idea.

FRONT COVER: Perrey and Kingsley - The In Sound From Way Out

COMMENTS: No one has ever made music like electronic pioneers Perrey and Kingsley. I had the original release of this 1966 album, and took it to my 4th grade class for show and tell. I wonder what the teacher thought! Perrey & Kingsley still impress me after all these years. It's gratifying to see that Perrey has achieved cult status among lovers of strange and weird music lovers.

FRONT COVER: Seventh Wave - Things to Come

COMMENTS: This band formed when British band Second Hand broke up. Listening to their big, synthesizer based sound, it's hard to believe it's only two people!

FRONT COVER: Napoleon XIV - The Second Coming

COMMENTS: Jerry Samuels changed the face of weird music with the original release of "They're Coming to Take Me Away." I've got the original album around here somewhere, and will put the cover up when I find it. "The Second Coming," a CD release, contains the entire original release, and several more aural oddities he recorded in the years afterward.
